  1. I don’t have a lot of sympathy with MM. Most of the men she had affairs with were married men, she didn’t care how much pain she caused the wives of those men. I think she’s as much to blame as the unfaithful men were.

  2. The Kennedy family are hypocrites. They are the product of deception, cheating and greed. They supported the criminals in their family but without a thought they turned their back on @robertfkennedyjrofficial just
because they hate President Trump. RFKJr isn’t perfect for sure but it’s disgusting they turned on him publicly. JFK would be considered a moderate republican today. Their elitism is gross and the whole family makes me sick.

  3. The author REALLY left a lot out of this chapter.
    1. WHERE were Ethel & the 4 eldest kids the day Marilyn died? East coast or San Francisco? Reports have Bobby at Marilyn’s house in LA and flying back/forth to San Francisco.
    2. Pat Lawford had flown to the Kennedy compound to discuss the double Marilyn problem with their parents. Were they involved?
    3. Peter Lawford had previously called Bobby from a pay phone telling him that Marilyn was going public with the affairs AND SHE had made tapes for proof— prompting Bobby & Ethel & 4 kids to go to California for image control and a “tour”.
    4. What did Ethel know about Bobby’s actions that day/ night? Her perspective is left out.

  4. I always have to question biographies when the authors start creating actual dialogue between the characters presented in their books – its not like those type of biographers have actual tape recordings they are transcribing from and rarely if ever were those authors present themselves when those dialogues happened…i know inventing dialogue for characters in a biography can help the subjects come "alive" for the reader but doing so almost always is not what was really said but rather doing so exposes the particular bias or narrative the biographer is pushing – and controversial narratives sell books.

  7. 🌸 Happy Thanksgiving to you & yours from me & mine. 🤨🤣 You looked pretty in today’s video, hope the homeschooling is going well. Maybe a little life update video? Would like to know what you think about homeschooling, the positive and/or negatives. I would love to hear your opinion being a teacher yourself. 😊

  8. I’m here for all your videos, enjoy your readings and especially your analysis. I’m a history buff and waiting for the Mountbattens, Dickie always seemed to be involved anytime something of any historical significance was happening. I keep expecting him to turn up in this story line too.

  9. I understand what you said about the "emotional calm" bit. . .But I think the writer may have been referring to the reports that Marilyn was so mad about JFK dumping her that she was threatening to go public about her affair with the President. I think the Kennedys were afraid she just might do that, which back then could have ruined JFK's reputation enough to hurt his chances in 1964. So, I think the writer was saying that the "calming" bit was possibly an attempt to get Marilyn to NOT go public. The media was different back then, and the average American really didn't know anything about JFK's womanizing. The reporters who did know about it just didn't use it. I agree, though, it's still a pretty lame excuse for hopping into bed with Marilyn!

  10. I've studied the Kennedys since my college days 40 years ago. While I don't condone some of their private behavior, it was not at all unusual behavior among many elected officials on Capitol Hill during those times, the 1950s and 1960s. Indeed, it was an open secret that various Members of Congress (Republican and Democrat alike) engaged in affairs. The environment 60 and 70 years ago was much more permissive then about such matters than is the case nowadays The accepted rule at that time among journalists was that, if it was known that an elected official was engaged in an affair, not to report on it because if it was believed that that official's private behavior had no bearing on their public conduct, it was not publicized. This was a "Mad Men" world. White male privilege writ large.

.One book I would highly recommend for any interested viewers is "GRACE AND POWER: The Private World of the Kennedy White House" by Sally Bedell Smith. I found it to be a highly fascinating book. (BTW, cool podcast.)
