  1. I cannot get over the bias they create by the two wildly different ways of asking people to guess these women's ages. If you ask a group of people to guess the age of someone on a picture, and then for the exact same person, same day and all, but standing directly in front of them, of course the average would be much lower already? People usually try to be nice by underestimating a woman's age when saying it to her face! It infuriates me

  2. FYI regarding the science behind the face massage and its results, it is actually a huge part of physiotherapy, mostly in the context of headaches or dental physiotherapy and such. However, due to the rising popularity of facial massages, the visual/cosmetic results of it are also gaining more interest in science. As far as I know (but I might not be up to date) the general consensus is that the main reason is the lymphatic drainage which results in the (very much literal) reduction of swelling. The results are neither spectacular, nor permanent (you need to make a habit of massaging regularly), and even kinda hard to predict, so in no shape or form is it comparable to the plastic surgery. However, for many, these results are satisfying enough. I believe when people claim it's the "alternative to plastic surgery", what they really mean is "perhaps you don't need a plastic surgery, if you just want to look a bit more revitalised" and I must admit, I agree with such attitude – especially since every plastic surgery is still a surgery with all its risks.

  3. i love how for years all the makeover shows where giving everyone short haircuts and then suddenly hair extensions was the thing. like they convinced a generation shorter hair made you look younger and then said psych now give us 500-$700 to fix it

  4. I agree Luxeria. This episode was both better and worse than others. Nikki showed us some style knowledge in this episode and I thought the lady looked really nice after her makeover. Though it’s weird how much wider her lower jaw looked post transformation. Optical illusion maybe. But the groping and shaming has got to go.

  5. I would say this is the first one where I do feel like they actually made her look 10 years younger… I would have placed her at 37 before and she looked 27 by the end. I think the hair was quite bad (especially since a DIY shag is so trendy now), but the facial hair grooming and makeup/styling made most of the difference. The biggest difference was her bright smile and the pep in her step, you could tell she felt really confident. But yes they were horrible to her.

  6. That hair is not worth that much money lmaooo. Also I know it's not the narrator's job to write the script but damn, I wonder how he feels about reading this mocking bs out loud.
Also, I'd say she looks better, not necessarily 10 years younger. But she never looked as old as they rated her anyway

  7. I have PCOS and I am lucky to not deal with bad excess hair but I do have it. The fact that they called her pre-menopausal and spoke so terribly about her weight. The 2000’s was a dark time for anyone who wasn’t a size zero. This was a rough watch but I absolutely adore you Luxeria, you are a gift!!!!

  8. The reason this show was stupid in concept alone is that peoples looks and age are rarely linked after a certain age. I know people in their 50s that you'd swear were late 20s, and my brother has had wrinckly hands since he was like 14, there are so, so many variables in how someone looks (some you can control, like proper moisturization and some you cant, like my brothers genetics). The idea that you can guess someone's age on one look, on one day is kinda stupid from the go.

  9. As someone with PCOS and a 'hair problem' (according to these people :/), the amount of shaming they put this poor woman through over her body hair is appalling.
Also, love the makeup and hair in this video, Luxeria! You look so bright and sunny <3

  10. I'm 28 & going grey, I don't see what the issue is. I don't think any of these people have heard of genetics. They blame people all the time for things out of their control. Facial hair & trouble losing weight are also both signs of PCOS, like perhaps don't call people lazy for things that may be out of their control or even the result of a medical issue. It boils my piss

  11. 1) i feel like especially with social media and stuff, we have either become a lot better at guessing people’s ages or we have become worse 😂 2) i have been musing over the whole study of facial massages and Gua sha and I am thinking about how can you accurately test the effects of that practice physically? How can you make sure all test subjects are doing AND reporting on their regimen?

  12. I think the idea that women who weren't in control of their body hair could just be laughed at was still a thing until fairly recently (See the Princess Diaries for a scene where they NAME her eyebrows and Wikipedia says Anne Hathaway felt 'so alone' when she had to go home looking like that…). It's been taboo to have it and it was talked about as though you weren't a real adult woman if you weren't willing to rip or burn it out of your body.

15 or so years later and this conversation is STARTING to get a bit more nuance. HOW would you like to manage your facial hair IF you want to?

Interesting how there's still no facial shaving products marketed for women yet. Bikini and legs and underarms, yes. Not for faces. Because we weren't supposed to admit we had it and facial shaving is too masculine? (until Blading became a thing and now it's ok to shave your face but only if it's dry?)

  13. The body hair part is breaking my heart. It all came across as blame towards this young lady, but at no point did they mention that mention that maybe that this could be caused by a hormonal imbalance, like say PCOS or something like that. Maybe it's cultural. I really doubt that this young lady urged her hair follicles to spout dark hair… Horrifying!!!!

  14. Ruby Wax became a psychotherapist and lectures at Bangor University. She's also quite an established voice in the mental health sphere with published material. She still tours too! 🖤
